Many people simply do not realize that there is a wealth of Free Software out there. Many of these programs are not only functionally equivalent to many of the pay-for programs out on the market, but they often also rival their quality and ease-of-use. For example, did you know that there are free alternatives to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint? How about free alternatives to Roxio Easy CD Creator or Nero? There are even free Antivirus packages available! Sometimes you might opt to use the free alternative version of a program, simply because you do not want to be bombarded with advertisements. Did you know there are free alternatives to programs like AOL Instant Messenger that do not display ads? Some free programs are simply amazing, and add to your computer experience. Look at Google Desktop, Google Earth, and Picasa, to name a few! Need a good photo editing program? Try the GIMP, which is a clever acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. Sometimes I have people ask me questions like "If this program is so good, why haven't I heard of it?" The answer to this question is simple. Nobody makes any money for telling you about it. All of the major software companies exist to make a profit. Many of the programs I list on this section of our site are programs that are written by groups of computer enthusiasts and released to the public at no charge. They are all free to use for home use, and many can even be used for free even in corporate environments. However, not all "Free Downloads" can be trusted! This section of our site will list some of the good ones that won't harm your computer or install adware. Browse the menu on the left to learn more about some of the free software that you can download and install today that can improve your computer experience right now! Tip: Before using any of the programs listed in a corporate environment, make sure that you read and understand the license agreement for that program. Also remember to make sure it is okay with your I.T. staff and your supervisor. If the program will improve your job performance and the license allows you to use it in business, you should not have any trouble.
